I’ve met quite a few people and companies who had high traffic to their site, however, the traffic was either not generating sales at all or was making just a few sales. Many of them were wondering what to do about it and what’s the magic behind conversion rate optimisation and high conversion websites.

First thing you have to keep in mind – conversion rate optimisation is a continuous journey rather than the destination.
Some quick wins can help you to increase your conversion rate. However, the optimisation itself is several steps and tests.
So, here comes the million-dollar question: where do I start the journey to profitable affiliate marketing?
The right audience
Having the right audience is vital, to begin with.
You can pretty quickly have over 100 000 visitors a month. However, if your bounce rate is over 90%, your potential sales are significantly lower. And here comes our rule number one.
When it comes to traffic, don’t focus on quantity, focus on quality.
It comes down to all your strategies and tactics – for SEO, PPC, Social Media ads, content strategy and others.
Ranking on or focusing on top and very competitive keywords don’t necessarily mean that it’ll drive sales.
For example, you have a website for casino reviews, and you decide to run PPC ads with a keyword “casino”. Whoever searches for casino must be your audience.
Wrong. Why? The cost per click is around 50$ (approx. 48 EUR or 38 GBP), and you don’t exactly know what the person is searching for.
Is he/she looking for a casino review, for a specific casino, what casino means, landbased casino and I can continue.
The same would apply for insurance – which is the most expensive keyword. Wordstream team has done great infographics on that.
Therefore, always ensure you’re targeting the right audience.

A structured approach towards the conversion rate optimisation of your website with a goal of long term success is what will make you successful affiliate marketer.
There is no need to rush. It’s better to optimise step-by-step and understand what worked for you.
I’ll share some of the techniques I used for conversion rate optimisation of multi-billion dollars businesses websites.
#1 Test Your Headlines
Headlines are the attention-catcher! Boring and not relevant headlines don’t drive quality traffic.
That applies to e-mail marketing as well as to SEO and PPC. If your headline isn’t relevant nor catchy, you are shooting blindly.
But how do you write a relevant and catchy headline that helps to create a high conversion website?
It’s not as simple as it sounds – even though some people have a real talent for it.
For the rest of them (like me), CoSchedule team has created a tool that will help with that.

I used it for this article to show how it works.
I’ve started with “How do I make a high conversion website for affiliate?” which I thought was quite good.
But the results were following.
So I’ve decided to do a little bit of optimisation, and after a few tests I changed it to “How To Make A High Conversion Site Proven And Free”.
And here comes the results:
Not only that I’m happy with the results, but I’m also way more pleased with the headline.

#2 Test your Call-to-Action
I cannot even remember how many times I had to explain why this is critical. Too many people and companies are forgetting about this, and it is a hidden treasure.
HubSpot has published a fantastic article about homepage makeover. And the result? Conversion rate increased by 106%!

Are you finally, on-board? Great, because this could be your game changer.
But how to do that?
First of all, check if you have a call-to-actions everywhere it should be. And no, they don’t make pretty pictures look ugly. Add it there!
Make sure you use the right call-to-action. Do you offer something for free? A free trial? Do you offer a money-back? Ensure you test those against each other.
#3 A/B test
A/B test everything. And when I say everything, I mean E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. There is not enough A/B tests in the world.

Tools For A/B Testing And Creating High conversion website
It starts with selecting a tool that will help you to start A/B testing and do successful conversion rate optimisation.
- Visual Website Optimiser – Super simple platform. Drag and drop for editing and has a WordPress plugin.
- Google Optimise – A/B testing tool from Google. Much better than the previous version, however, requires Chrome plugin.
- Convertize – Another super simple platform. Drag and drop for editing, great tutorials and has a WordPress plugin. Much cheaper than Visual Website Optimiser.
Neither of the tools mentioned requires in-depth technical knowledge. They’ll do the job for you.
You can use Google Tag Manager for the implementation as well.
A/B Testing – What To Optimise And Where To Start
Start with looking in your Google Analytics (or any other analytical tool like Piwik) and find pages with the highest traffic.
Pick only one variable to test to start with. Very often this comes down to a dedicated landing page where digital marketers decide to run conversion rate optimisation.
Navigation is often seen as a must, but it all depends on the structure of your website. Also, it also depends on the page you are removing it from.
The results were fantastic. This small change has led to a 100% increase in conversion rate! The conversion rate jumped from 3% to 6%.
You can see that a small change can make a big difference.
The other elements you can A/B test are registration forms or, for example, checkout forms.
When thinking about what to optimise, don’t be afraid to steal with pride to create a high conversion website.

There is plenty of benefits.
Starting with that it’s super simple to create a website on WordPress.
Also, there are many WordPress themes and plugins you can select from with no need for advanced technical knowledge.
We will focus on the plugins part here to get some quick wins.
#1 Speed Optimisation
It’s vital that your site is as fast as you can make it. There is nothing more annoying than if a website takes ages to load.

Some themes are either not well optimised or using a high amount of plugins.
When I was battling with the speed of some of my site, I found two plugins that I use for a while, and I’m super happy with them.
Of course, the best way is to switch those plugins off. But that’s not always possible.
Therefore, here they are:
- WP Super Cache – WP Super Cache helps you to generate static files. Why is that great? Because your website will be loading much faster.
The two plugins above can work together with no issue. Here are some PageSpeed Insight results after using both plugins together.
Pretty good results, no? Try it yourself.
